Growing Old with a Expanding Prostate

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

About fifty percent of men over fifty, and eighty percent of men over seventy, have an issue with their prostate, commonly amplification.

The prostate is a gland placed beneath the bladder. If it becomes enlarged, it squeezes the urinary tract, causing a numerous problems.

Incontinence produces escape of urine. Prostate enlargement can also affect the urine stream, making it much debilitated. This can become extremely uncomfortable, but you should take heart in the fact that there are ways to remedy the disease.

Many people with prostate enlargement do not entail surgery or even medical attention. However, if you study symptoms, it is wise to have a doctor monitor your condition.

Symptoms may flare up that require medications. Flomax is one such drug that can help minimize the size of the prostate and allow urine to flow freely. Become well-educated, prostate pain to score more respectable outcomes.

The gravity of the symptoms of an enlarged prostate can differ, and it is significant to have routine check-ups.

Even mild symptoms should be observed with an exam. This can stop them from aggravating into more severe problems, like urinary tract infections, blood in the urine, bladder stones, or acute urinary retention. These require immediatemedical attention.

If your symptoms deteriorate, and you disregard it or hope it will go away, you can be doing more damage to your body. Surgery, performed through the urethra, may become necessary.

These procedures destroy excess tissue or widen existing tissue to permit smoother flow of urine.

Two methods are generally used for damaging surplus tissue through the urethra: electromagnetically-generated heat and microwave thermotherapy.

Another procedure, photo-selective vaporization, is also performed through the urethra, and aims to relieve discomfort and pain caused by enlarged prostates. Small slits are made into the bladder, and one common side effect is a momentary decrease in sexual functioning.

The above procedures may still not be enough to alleviate an enlarged prostate, primarily if the condition has escalated into prostate cancer.

Again, there are surgical options if this is the case. Transurethral resection of the prostate, or TURP, involves detachment of portions of the prostate. In more serious cases, a radical prostatectomy may be implemented. This involves the taking away of the whole prostate.

As with photo-selective vaporization, these surgeries may affect sexual routine. Many men find they experience sexual dysfunction of some kind, including trouble ejaculating. Further surgery may be needed to resolve these issues. For greatest outcomes try prostate pain to facilitate your prostate care.

You can prevent serious prostate problems and health hazards if you are conscious of symptoms and take required precautions. It is likely that, as a man over fifty, you will endure from certain type of prostate problem. Take medication before symptoms become bad.

Annual prostate tests are recommended for men over forty, and periodic doctor’s visits can keep prostate enlargement symptoms at bay. Prostate enlargement is a natural result of aging, but it doesn’t have to adversely impact your life.

Is it ok to use saw palmetto for baldness purposes then an enlarged prostate?

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

i know its a natural product my friend said it was ok but was wondering what other people think

Assuming you are male, young and healthy, with no signs of an enlarged prostate gland then I would say no to taking the supplement as an internal herbal.

Why?
saw palmetto contains a powerful inhibitor of an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase [5-AR]. The latter is implicated in benign prostatic hyperplasia [BPH] along with the metabolite of testosterone called dihydrotestosterone [DHT]…which is a product of a reaction involving that enzyme [5-AR]. And yes both are also implicated in male pattern baldness.

But!
5-AR is a key enzyme in male fertility and the health of the prostate gland under normal healthy conditions. So inhibitting this enzyme and/or DHT systemically [in a full body way] in an healthy male I would not recommend. It may lead to problems of infertility and/or libido, possibly.

However! You could consider using Saw palmetto locally on the scalp in the form of Saw palmetto oil. The effect should be localised to the hair follicles, which is where the action would be needed for male pattern baldness.

The Increasing Demand for Hair Growth – Do Hair Growth Pills Work?

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Having receding hairlines or being bald is a depressing thought for many people that is why there has been an increased demand for hair growth pills. A balding hair spot is usually equated to old age, and it can be dismal and embarrassing because not all people who are experiencing thinning hair are old. But with the way things are going today, young and old folks are already experiencing this condition. The sad part is that a large part of this problem is owed to genes and hormones. If not through genetics, the culprits are production of DHT, too much worries and stress, nutritional deficiencies, and tight hairstyles.

Natural Methods of Growing Hair

While diet and exercise may not be of much help when the real cause of hair loss is genes, they may however prevent hair loss brought about by nutrient deficiency. Foods rich in oil and fats should be avoided. Those containing vitamins and minerals such as iron, zinc, magnesium, and vitamin B complex should be digested as these promote hair growth. Having a regular exercise also helps in the proper blood circulation and the distribution of nutrients into the hair.

How Hair Growth Pills Work

Aside from the natural method of treating hair loss, hair growth pills have been introduced in the market. Most hair growth pills of today aim to block DHT. DHT is known to be the leading cause of baldness in men. Pills that contain saw palmetto are the most effective pills that stunt the production of DHT in the body. It helps keep the DHT from clinging into the hair follicles. It also inhibits the production of enzyme 5 alpha reductase, the substance which converts testosterone into DHT. It is also an effective anti-androgen, a potent herbal DHT inhibitor.

The Miracle Solution

There is a breakthrough product in the market that has been used by millions to promote hair growth. Because it is taken orally, it is easily absorbed by the hair follicles and signals a faster hair growth. It is vitamin and mineral enriched, hence, provides hair loss treatment the natural way and answers the demand for hair growth pills today.

Obesity Related Health Problems

Monday, October 26th, 2009

According to the statistic data of the 1999-2000 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey or the NHANES, nearly two- thirds of the total adult population in the United States are overweight, and an astonishing figure of about 30.5% of Americans are obese. This over weight and obesity prevalence fact sheet provided by the study as well presents the accompanying obesity related health problems in the population, apart from the disease’s mortality and economic costs. And a significantly stunning 61+ million people are at risk of the deadly disorders associated with obesity.

Only some of the known and proven obesity related health problems are the following:

* type 2 diabetes

* insulin resistance, glucose intolerance

* heart disease and congestive heart failure

* stroke, respiratory breathing problems and sleep apnea

* high blood pressure (hypertension)

* high blood cholesterol (dyslipidemia)

* cholescystitis and cholelithiasis

* gallbladder disease and urine leakage (stress incontinence)

* presence of excess body and facial hair (hirsutism)

* poor female reproductive health (menstrual irregularities, infertility, irregular ovulation)

* pregnancy complications

* degeneration of cartilage and bone of joints (osteoarthritis)

* psychological disorders (depression, low self- esteem, distorted body image and eating disorders)

* some forms of cancer (breast, uterine, endometrial, prostate, colorectal, kidney, and gallbladder), and

* increased surgical risk

To note, there are also gender- specific obesity related health problems among obese women and men. Obese women who have a waist circumference of more than 35 inches is considered to have a high amount of visceral fats or accumulated fats surrounding the internal organs which are associated with higher risks of liver disease and chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease. On the other hand, among obese males, are more likely deaths caused by colon, rectum, or prostate cancer as well as acquiring a suffering disorder of sleep apnea which is seriously associated with stroke and heart attack.

Being obese causes an increased risk for developing these numbers of serious and potentially lethal health problems. What makes these obesity related health problems even more noteworthy is the fact that it causes some 300,000 premature deaths in the United States every single year. Causing government spending of billions of dollars in health care costs, and the culprit is preventable. And with these risky obesity related health problems always in mind, no one would rather eat what he wants rather than wanting to live a long healthy life with his loved ones.
