Saw palmetto is a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor which prevents testosterone metabolism to DHT (the main cause for BPH). 5-alpha-reductase inhibition may increases testosterone levels which may stimulate hair growth. This is the same way Proscar (finasteride), also sold as Propecia, works. There are topical formulations of saw palmetto available. THIS is FYI and NOT TO BE RELIED ON. CONSULT A DOCTOR FIRST.
